You can follow a four part system to overcome any type of addiction.
The first step is to acknowledge that your addiction is in control of your mind not your body. The affects of your addiction on your body is only secondary or the results of your addiction. The addiction has taken over your mind and supplanted its needs on yours. The addiction is like a parasitic slug that feeds on your body. It can only get to your body and leave you looking dissapated, gaunt and grotesque because it is feeding from your life’s source without taking over your mind.

The second step is to deprive yourself of rewarding the parasitic slug. That is not easy. You have to step back from yourself and your automatic response system by not reacting immediately to impulses or to irritations that can only be satisfied by giving in to your addiction.

The third step is to love yourself no matter what your addiction has cause you to do. Love yourself to a fault but not your addiction. If the parasitic slug in your mind is telling you that you are the only wonderful person and that people are only jealous of you because your addiction makes you special, don’t buy it.
You are not the only wonderful person in the world and your addiction is making you look worse than other people who are not carrying the addiction.

See it and admit it. Cancel the parasitic slug’s demands and supplant another demand, you love yourself and want to be around longer than your addiction does.
The fourth step is to deprive or starve your addiction whatever it is. Let is hurt. Tell yourself that it hurts and not you. The parasitic slug is hurting not you. And begin to live for yourself.

Chances are, if you are asking yourself this question, you are already on your way. One of the biggest problems with addictions, of any kind, is denial. Many either do not realize they are addicted, or they simply refuse to admit it to themselves.

Overcoming addiction is hard, I will not lie to you. But you CAN do it.

Step One: Recognise your problem for what it is, and admit to yourself that it is a problem. The best way to fix a problem -and this is old news- is to face it head-on.

Step Two: Be honest with yourself about what your addiction has done to your life. Do not point fingers at yourself or others. Aim your anger at the addiction as if it were an identity of its own, and acknowledge the damage it has caused. Tell it how angry you are about what it has done to your life, and those you love. Acknowledge it for the disease it is, and physically walk away from it.

Step Three: Seek support. Addictions are all over, and if you think you are alone, rest assured, YOU ARE NOT. Millions of people everyday battle with addictions. People are employed to help persons in your position. Not only can you find a qualified professional, but you can find support groups where you can talk to other people just like you.

Step Four: Know, in your heart, that you are NOT defective. Your disease it defective, but you can beat it.
